Father, be the way that I walk
when the path is a long obedience in the same direction
and when it is made of radical missteps all over creation.
Jesus, be the way that I walk
when the footpath leads to familiar secret gardens
and when it is a lost highway shimmering in the heat.
Spirit, be the way that I walk
when I’m trudging through the shadow’s valley
and when I’m wheeling along the mountain’s edge.
And Lord, when my journey is through,
may each discarded and worn out shoe
from my infancy to my senility-
be found to be another movement forward
into the sacred burning heart of You who are Three.
And at my last step before I fall from night and day;
and I wash up on heaven’s shore:
may I be found again in the house of love
who is Father, Son, and Spirit Holy.
Amen.
